Meet the author...

Now Denise just attempts to keep up with the lives of her seventeen grandbabies while enjoying the nature that surrounds her where she lives in Leavenworth.  She has seen a dozen deer at once bedded in her snowy backyard; racoons repeatedly visiting to eat her flower bulbs; a chunky bear trudging past her grapevines (twice);  and once a mountain lion moved in underneath her back porch for 36 hours.  Ms. Cherryholmes has decided it’s time to begin publishing children’s books which incorporate the naturally transpiring plots found right in her own town.

When Denise’s  20 month old granddaughter, Winter, fell in love with her goldendoodle, Tully; Denise decided to write her a book with Tully as the main character. Then she wrote her another—Tully’s Alpine Adventure:  Lamb on the Lam. Denise quite literally writes what she thinks would be perfect for her grandbabies to read. Her books combine a love of nature with plots which evoke enthusiasm, optimism, and imagination.  She strives to nurture healthy social-emotional development in children, through the kind eyes and actions of her animal and human characters and sometimes a healthy dose of humor.

As Denise is an avid lover of photography, poor Tully endures wardrobe changes and countless snaps on beautiful hikes photographing Tumwater and Icicle Canyons, along the Wenatchee and Icicle Rivers, up in the Icicle Gorge, and out at Lake Wenatchee—just to name a few of Leavenworth’s scenic gems.  Denise’s illustrations each use a combination of several of her photographs, AI, and different editing programs to create original pictures which combine traditional creativity and emerging technologies.
